Blue passivate, also known as bright/ clear, is most popular zinc passivate, due to its attractive silver colour. It has been known as the least protective passivate in comparison with the green and yellow as it only usually withstands 24-48 hours salt spray to white corrosion.
Passivates are made of chromium as a base chemical, which in its hexavalent form is very dangerous to human and wildlife.
Over the past few years there have been many changes in legislation and the use of hexavalent chromium is very restricted. There has been a lot of development in passivates based on trivalent chromium to replace the better protecting passivates like yellow with thick film trivalent version.
We have upgraded our standard BZP to give the components the extra protection of the old yellow, whilst still keeping its lustrous silver colour (slight blue tinge).
Our current BZP on offer withstands the salt spray test from 120hrs on barrel or 240hrs on rack plated items, giving you components the protection and look it deserves.
'Bright zinc' / 'BZP' can be used on rack and barrel plated items. Very popular for many different applications/components; such as fixings, automotive parts, machined parts, that require a decorative finish where the long term protection is not too critical.
